There will be 12 students, all cello, by invitation only. Different ages and stages. Accent is on:
(1) picking one main goal and improving it throughout the nine days.
(2) interacting, regardless of experience, and sharing each others contribution.
(3) a chance to think, broaden the mind and focus.
(4) preparing solos, etc. for the concerts.

Timetable:
open classes, one-to-one lessons, cello ensemble rehearsals, study groups.
Afternoons can be free for beach or private practise
More rehearsals etc in the evening.

Pianist:
Pianist: to accompany the students this year we are joined by John Paul Ekins
(www.jpekinspianist.com)

Accomodation:
Our hosts are Dr. Luke Zander and his wife Annick. Their house „Villa Clementine“ is a beautiful, large, old-fashioned, characterful, 18th Century summer family home. Plenty of rooms and corners to practise in. The course has grown steadily since the first time it was held in 1999. Our audiences of tourists and locals are highly appreciative. Concerts are in ancient local churches and the community centre.

Concerts:
There are 4 concerts. 3 of these are student concerts 2 in the local churches with cello ensemble programmes, and 2 at the Salle des Duits local community centre. One of these is the student concert. Carteret is a quiet, picturesque seaside town. Students often spend afternoons at the fantastic beach; there is safe, clean (supervised) swimming.

Essential to bring with you:
A cello spike protection for the floors, a music stand, a sleeping bag, a towel, swim things.

Travel:
(1) from England via ferry Portsmouth-Cherbourg. Carteret is 40‘ car ride away. Check boat times. It may be important to book if you bring over a car.
(2) via Paris by train from Station Gare St. Lazarre direction Cherbourg. Get out at Valognes, the last but one stop before Cherbourg. Check that the train stops at Valognes! We will be meeting only ONE train from Paris – details will follow!
(3) International arrival by air:
Allow plenty of time to get across Paris from the Airport to the Gare St. Lazarre. If you use the airport-city bus you still have to get from „Opera“ across town to the Gare St. Lazarre. Beware rip-off downtown taxis!

Taking part at Carteret is by invitation only so we do not have application forms.
